Students Can Explore Jobs in Athletics
Paige Babb is currently a Junior majoring in Business and minoring in education. She hopes to work in business or become a Sports Information Director. She has also played volleyball for the Fighting Squirrels for the past three years.
Sports have always been important to Paige. Throughout middle and high school, she played volleyball, basketball, and softball. She was recruited by several schools to play volleyball in college but chose Mary Baldwin for a number of reasons. She liked the location of the school and also the education offered at MBC. Her class size ranges from nine to twenty-eight. With the small class size, students are recognized by name by their professors and not by a number. Also, she was given the opportunity to play and contribute to the Fighting Squirrels volleyball program immediately.
Entering her Senior season in the fall of 2012, Paige has already contributed 912 assists, 414 digs, 36 kills, and 51 aces as the setter on the volleyball team. Last year, she started working for Lynda Alanko, the Sports Information Director. "This job makes me realize how much I appreciate the coaches because they do a lot of work that players do not realize," said Babb. Her job includes taking stats for the basketball and softball teams as well as creating programs, schedules, and other various jobs. It has been a great opportunity for Paige to explore what it is like to work in college athletics.
If you are interested in working in college athletics, please contact Lynda Alanko at lalanko@mbc.edu. She will be more than happy to talk with you. You don't have to be an athlete to work in athletics: there are many opportunites which require many different skills.
