Mary Baldwin Soccer Wins Home Opener

The Mary Baldwin College soccer team opened their season this afternoon at home against Wilson College defeating the visitors 5-3.  Wilson struck first then added a second goal by Courtney Bernecker to take a 2-0 lead.  Freshman Caitlin Novak answered with her first of two goals of the afternoon to bring MBC back to within one goal at the half.  Senior April Pegg-Joplin then tied the game.  That seemed to give Mary Baldwin the confidence they needed to dominate the second half. Caitlin scored a second goal and assisted fellow freshman Kadijah Jones on one of her two goals. Senior Erica Gaughan remained in the goal the entire game finishing with 5 saves for the afternoon. The Fighting Squirrels also managed to 8 corner kicks to Wilson's 1 and 24 total shots to Wilson's 10. MBC will be back in action Monday afternoon at home  as they take on Randolph College at 4:00PM.
