MBC Soccer Prepares for Opening Game

STAUNTON, Va. - As Coach Homes Tehrani enters his 3rd year as the head coach of the Mary Baldwin College soccer program he is looking to build upon last year's success.

Since taking over the helm, Coach Tehrani has improved MBC's record each year finishing 5-9 last season.

This year, the team has 6 returning starters.

"We lost some talented players who would have helped the Seniors this year to achieve their goals but we are still confident this season," stated Coach Tehrani.  "An interesting variety of newcomers shine with promising potential which will give this team a stronger foundation for the coming years."

Our defense will bring experience and speed and includes freshmen Clarissa Swanerbury, Johnna Bingham, Kylie Thurber, and sophomores Kadijah Jones and Lizette Naranjo.  Juniors Donika Lee and Windsor Vaughn solidify the defense.

Freshmen Daniela Doyle and Brenda Santamaria will play midfield along with juniors Kallie Johnson and Koshila Ratnayake, and seniors Michelle Jones and Jordan Jones.

Our offense will be headed by sophomore Caitlin Novak and senior Samantha Thomas while freshman Hailey Cowles will provide speed on the attacking side of the offense for the Fighting Squirrels.

Two freshman, Erin Dullahan and Kayla Childers, will anchor the goal this year.

Nathan Beck returns as the Fighting Squirrels assistant coach while former goalie Erica Gaughan will also join the coaching staff.

The Fighting Squirrels open Friday, August 31 at Wilson College.  Their first home game is Tuesday, September 4 at 4:00pm when they host Gallaudet.
