Harrisonburg, VA - Eastern Mennonite University swept Mary Baldwin in volleyball 3-0 this afternoon as part of their Homecoming Weekend and Parent Recognition Day.
In the first set, the Royals used an 8-2 run to gain momentum and start the day with a 25-20 victory. Mary Baldwin came back in the second set leading 10-7. Eastern Mennonite then answered scoring eight straight on a 12-2 run to go up 19-12 and take the set 25-16. The third set proved to be the closet of all. The Royals went on a 7-2 run to lead 18-13. The Fighting Squirrels came back and tied the game at 23. Eastern Mennonite answered with two straight kills to sweep the match and improve their record 6-16 (0-8 ODAC) while Mary Baldwin fell to 2-20 (1-11 USAS).
Sophomore Tiffany Flesher led Mary Baldwin with 10 kills this afternoon while Paige Babb added 17 assists. Senior libero Candace Pettway added 17 digs. Mary Baldwin will be back in action Tuesday when they take on Shenandoah in a USA South matchup on the road.
